Girls Division 1 Queen of the Universe 6-5 Scoil Mhuire 0-1

Congratulations to the girls football team who beat Scoil Mhuire in their first game of the year. After a slow start the girls really got on top and managed to score four goals in the first half. We made a lot of changes at half time to make sure every girl got to play at least one half of the game and we will have a real headache trying to pick the team for the next match.

It was clear to see how much the girls skills have improved and this is all thanks to Ann Hickey and the Bagenalstown girls team who have put in huge work underage in the town.

We look forward to playing Askea next week and hopefully getting a place in the semi final.

Cross country

Five of our girls competed in the Carlow schools cross country championships on Wednesday 26 September.

Every girl put in a huge effort over an 800m course for 4th and a 1000m course for 5th class.

Congratulations to Roisin Jordan who came second in the 4th class race. She got a great start and was first up the hill. As she worked her way through the course she stayed in the leading pack before holding on to second place in a great race to the line with a girl from Rathvilly who finished third.

We had four girls running in the fifth class race and they all ran superbly. Despite not getting the same good start that Roisin got, the girls were all in a good position coming to the hill. The longer distance was hard for these girls but despite this they gritted their teeth and dug deep to finish in 9th, 12th, 24th, and 28th. Chloe Beck was the girl who finished in 9th and picked up a medal. Well done also to Shauna J O’Neill, Rachel Hughes Doherty and Shauna K O’Neill who worked so hard to ensure the team result was as good as it was.

Well done all from everybody at the school. We are proud of all of you.

Back to school.

We are back to school over three weeks now and it has been a really busy time for us all.

We are in training for our first football match which will be against Scoil Mhuire Gan Smal from Carlow. Girls from 4th,5th and 6th are training and having great fun with Ann.

Our jersey day was on 21st September with lots of different jersies on display. Photos to follow.
