We welcomed some interesting new arrivals to our school last week.
Three hens became part of our school community thanks to Slow food Ireland (http://slowfoodireland.com/).
Last June we entered a competition and we were the lucky winners of the hens, a chicken coop from Old McDonald farm supplies in Carlow and feeding and water containers. We also received a visit from Fiona Dillon who introduced the children to the hens and let the children feel them. We will also be visited by a chef later in the year to explain to the children what they can use the eggs for to show them healthy eating recipes.
A rota will be set up so all classes can be involved in checking for eggs and feeding the hens.
We will be running a competition after Halloween to name them and look forward to receiving many eggs in the future.
