Outdoor classroom

With the good weather this week our outdoor classroom got plenty of use. It is a joy to bring the children outside in the good weather and do some literacy, art or gardening work. Below are some photos of one of our junior infant classes enjoying planting bulbs. We look forward to them flowering later in the year.

Concern Primary Debates

                            Debate Round 2 Knockout

On Monday the 21st of January, both of the teams from Queen of the Universe debated the motion: ‘Irish youth are doing their fair share to end poverty in the developing world.’ The first team debated against Castlecomer NS and the second team debated against St.Aidan’s, Kilmanagh NS. The first team were proposing the motion and the second team were opposing the motion.

The captain of the proposition was Roisin from Queen of the Universe NS and the captain of the opposition was Molly from  Castlecomer NS. The second speaker from Queen of the Universe was Emily and the second speaker from Castlecomer NSwas Tara. The third speaker from Queen of the Universe NS was Kaitlin and the third speaker from Castlecomer ns was Kayla. Both teams did very well and it was extremely close for both teams but the ones who came out on top were Castlecomer NS.

Next up were Queen of the Universe’s opposing team against St. Aidan’s NS. The captain of the proposition was Amy from St. Aidan’s and the captain from the opposition was Sophia from Queen of the Universe NS. The second speaker from St. Aidan’s was Molly and the second speaker from Queen of the Universe ns was Patty. The third speaker from St. Aidan’s was Frank and the third speaker from Queen of the Universe was Mia. As well, both teams were excellent but the ones that came out on top this time were our very own; Queen of the Universe NS!

Queen of the Universe are now down to the last 8 of 32 and are through to the Quarter Finals of the Debating competition for the first time EVER! This debate will take place in Kilkenny Education Centre next month and the motion is: ‘To be serious about Climate Change is to give up eating meat’. We know, tough right?!

Concert times – 9.45 and 12.15

This year our Christmas concert will be held in the school hall at 9.45 a.m. and 12.15 p.m. Both performances will feature all classes so it does not matter which one you attend. The performance is expected to last around 1 hour and 45 mins. We ask you to remain in the hall until all classes have performed. There is no charge for the concert but our ASD classes will be having a small raffle on the day for a beautiful Sam McCauleys chemist hamper.

We look forward to seeing you at what is always a very enjoyable day.
